John Barnes, Emeritus Professor of English at La Trobe University, has been editor of The Trobe Journal since 1998.
Sandra Burt, a librarian in the La Trobe Australian Manuscripts Collection at the State Library of Victoria, has been assistant to the editor of The La Trobe Journal since 1998.
Sarah Erwin is Curator of Archival Collections in the Gilcrease Museum, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Paul Fox is Research Fellow at the Australian Centre, University of Melbourne. He has written extensively on Melbourne's public institutions, the frontier, the collections of Museum Victoria {where he was the Thomas Ramsay Scholar), the history of photography, and garden history. In 2004 Miegunyah Press will publish his book, Clearings: Six Colonial Gardeners and their Landscapes.
Margot Hyslop retired in December 2001, after 42 years in Librarianship, during which she worked in the La Trobe Library of the State Library of Victoria in the 1960s and more recently as Reference Librarian and later as the Collection Development Librarian in the Borchardt Library, La Trobe University.
Robert Kenny is a writer, artist and former publisher, who is the author of several volumes of poetry and prose including the novel, Last Adventures of Christian Doom: Private I (1982), and the limited edition The Winter Bridge: Poetry and Drawings (1994). He has recently completed a doctoral thesis at La Trobe University on Moravian missions and the question of Human Unity.
John Mason is the author of The Moravian Church and the Missionary Awakening in England 1760-1800, a Royal Historical Society publication, published by The Boydell Press, 2001. Of his family connection he writes: ‘…it was my aunt who introduced me to our La Trobe forbears. This she did when she gave me remnants from Christian Ignatius's published music which were mouldering away in her garage. To these she added the engraving from the portrait which is reproduced here [see p. 23 of this issue]. It was these and a few other pieces of memorabilia which set me on a voyage of discovery about the Moravian Church and its foreign missions during the Eighteenth Century'. Dianne Reilly, La Trobe Librarian at the State Library of Victoria, is the author of ‘Charles Joseph La Trobe: The making of a Governor’ (Ph D thesis, University of Melbourne, 2002) and the Introduction to Charles Joseph La Trobe: Landscape and Sketches, jointly published by the State Library of Victoria, Tarcoola Press and the National Trust in 1999. She is the Secretary of the La Trobe Society established in 2001.
A.G.L. Shaw, Emeritus Professor of History at Monash University, is the editor of Gipps-La Trobe Correspondence 1839-1846 (1989), and the author of A History of the Port Phillip District (1996), as well as many other historical studies. He is the President of the La Trobe Society.

The State Library of Victoria Foundation
was established in 1994 to raise funds for the State Library of Victoria: Australia's oldest free public library; the largest public reference and research library in Victoria, with collections that include more than one million books and journals, 90,000 newspapers and hundreds of thousands of paintings, photographs, maps, manuscripts and other materials; and the hub of the statewide library network, providing information services across Victoria. The Friends of the State Library of Victoria was founded in 1966 (and known as the Friends of the La Trobe Library until 1984), its objects being to assist, encourage and promote the interests of the State Library, by seeking sponsorship and gifts for the Library and by searching for and obtaining books, manuscripts, pictures and other library material, particularly of Australian interest. It organised lectures and other activities for members, and from 1968 published the La Trabe Library Journal. In 1997 the Friends amalgamated with the Foundation.
The State Library of Victoria Foundation encourages and promotes private and corporate sponsorship for State Library of Victoria projects such as conservation of valuable collections, acquisition of items of historical significance and expanding educational and research services.
