NOTES ON CONTRIBUTORS

W. J. H. (Jeavons) Baillie is the Chief Conservator at the State Library of Victoria. Before commencing at the Library in 1990, he held the position of Director, Preservation Services at the Public Records Office of Victoria and was formerly the Conservation Officer at the National Library of New Zealand.
Deborah Breen is a paper conservator at the State Library of Victoria whose professional interests include conservation training and education.
Mimi Colligan is a senior research officer with Australia Post. Her PhD thesis dealt with wax-works, panoramas and cycloramas in Australia and featured the Jackson and Hennings panoramas of early Melbourne.
Des Cowley works in the La Trobe collection at the State Library of Victoria.
Mary Cox is the Photographic Conservator at the State Library of Victoria. She has qualifications in photography and librarianship and has been with the Library for seven years.
David G. Harris was ingested into the staff of the SLV on 19 February 1973. He subsequently became a document restorer, invented the term bookminder to de-scribe his vocation and enjoyed a two-year hiccup studying Paper Conservation at the Camberwell School of Arty Crafts (London).
Michael Lester is the Supervisor of the Conservation Bindery at the State Library of Victoria, and an active member of the Victorian Bookbinders’ Guild.
J. A. (Jackie) Millard is the Acting Senior Conservator in the Paper Conservation Laboratory at the State Library of Victoria. Her background is in the analytical and applied chemistry field, and she has been with the Library since 1985.
Robin Tait is a Book Conservator who trained in conservation at the University of Canberra, and in hand bookbinding and book restoration at the Camberwell School of Art and Craft, London. She has since worked with James Brockman in Oxford, and now operates a private conservation bindery in Canberra.

THE STATE LIBRARY OF VICTORIA

is Victoria's major reference and research library. As well as its general collection of books, periodicals, newspapers, maps and other materials, it has a separate wing known as

THE LA TROBE LIBRARY

which is Victoria's chief research centre and reference library for Australian history and literature. It is the State principal repository for manuscripts, historical pictures, newspapers and other library material relating to the history of Australia and the Pacific, and especially to Victoria.

FRIENDS OF THE STATE LIBRARY OF VICTORIA

is a society founded in 1966 and, until 1984, known as the Friends of the La Trobe Library. Its objects are to assist, encourage and promote the interests of the State Library, by seeking sponsorship and gifts for the Library and by searching for and obtaining books, manuscripts, pictures and other library material, particularly that which is of Australian interest.
The Friends’ Patrons are: The Honorable Joan Kirner, M.L.A.; The Honorable John Cain, Q.C., M.L.A.; The Honorable Rupert Hamer, K.C.M.G., E.D.; Professor R. M. Crawford, O.B.E., Mrs. Margaret Carnegie, A.M.; and Mrs. E. M. Borrow.
